Pool No More

I am getting older and just don't have the time anymore to take care of the pool.  Hubby doesn't use it and I am sole maintenance of it.  Plus I am the one that mainly uses it.  So a hard decision was reached to get rid of it while it is in good use for someone else to enjoy.  Pools do rust over time and we have had this one 15 years now.  We found someone who has 8 children (a blended family) to give it to and though it took a while for them to dismantle it, it is no more...  It comes with knowing you just cant do certain things anymore.  I made a choice to garden over pool maintenance.  There is always a hose, lol...

Draining Pool

Wow, without the pool - it is a huge back yard....

I was going to place a garden here but hubby poo poo'd the idea.
"You are trying to get away from so much work..." said he....
He is right. I do have enough to keep me busy.
Sad day, but it is for the best, I know....
Hugs, LJ

  1. I loved the pool . So beautiful. But at times it's better to give it off than keeping without of no use . Happens . Don't worry .

  2. We have a pool, but in two or three years, we hope to move when my husband retires. I know our next home won't have a pool because they are a lot of work and expense. If you don't have to maintain the pool, this will free up your time to do other things you enjoy instead.

  3. How life changes with the seasons of our lives. Your pool was beautiful, but how wonderful to have a large family to now enjoy it. I agree with your husband...that would be too big of a garden to be a joy and not a burden.

We had to downsize after my husband's retirement, and live in a small Senior/Family complex. It's lovely, but no yard which I miss..but it does have a pool that they clean and care for so that's a plus. Pluses and minus ~ That life and I smile and say thank you Lord, I'm healthy enough to enjoy it. Thanks for stopping by.

  6. Sometimes what's best is very hard to do...but I understand about wanting less maintenance. I too have reached the age of cutting back on as much as I can.

  8. I am like you and aim to stop doing some things now that we are retired to give me time for what I like to do. How big is that pool, it looks huge. The family with 8 kids will love it.

  9. I completely understand when it comes to pools. We had one when our children were small.......and we were young.......but even then, it was quite the job to keep it up and nice. After the children grew up, we never bothered with another one.......however, I have a pond where I raise my goldfish.......and it is also quite a chore to keep clean. LOL Now you can enjoy a pretty yard!

  14. I think that large pools are like boats. They seem like a great idea on paper and in theory but the reality is a whole lotta work and headaches. And expense. I'm glad that another family was able to take it off your hands. I'm sure their kids will enjoy it.

  15. Now, when you want to cool off in the summer . . . set a lounge chair out there and turn on the sprinkler. It's relaxing, less work and gives the neighbors something to talk about, LOL.
    Happy Summer!

  16. We know all about getting rid of a pool, it gets to be a headache after a while. Good of you to give it away to a family. The kids will love it.

  17. A pool is a lot of work and we will be moving away from ours in a few months (hopefully the house will sell!). Gardens are even more work, I think. Good choices!

  18. Even though getting rid of your pool was bittersweet, LJ, you did enjoy it for many years. Plus knowing that it will be used by a family must have made you happy. Boats and pools...enjoy them and then don't miss them, we have had both.
